Winter wheat remained adequately protected from bitter
cold by snow cover over most of the region.
Minimum
temperatures as low as -25°C across central portions of
Ukraine and Russia had no detrimental impact on
dormant winter wheat due to a moderate to deep
snowpack (10-50 cm).
In southwestern Russia, a shallow - albeit still sufficient - snow cover (5-15 cm)
protected winter wheat from nighttime readings as low as
-18°C.
Overall, wheat continued to overwinter in good
condition in Ukraine and Russia.
