Last Friday the Russian Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian
Ministry of Agriculture held a
meeting to discuss the state and prospects of
development of cooperation in the agricultural sector.
According to the Russian Ministry, Brazil expressed an
interest in importing Russian wheat once all the phytosanitary issues can be
resolved.
Consequently Russia proposed to intensify the work of the
Russian-Brazilian Agrokomiteta, presumably to facilitate trade by resolving any
phytosanitary issues.
So although the Russian Ministry announced that Brazil will
start to buy Russian wheat it includes the caveat that once all necessary
regulations and phytosanitary issues have been resolved to the satisfaction of
all parties.
Anybodies guess as to how long that might take.
