Spring grain planting gained momentum in the north, while
showers maintained excellent moisture supplies for crops in
southern growing areas.
Early spring grain planting was able
to proceed without significant delay despite scattered showers
(5-30 mm) in central Russia and northern Kazakhstan.
Farther
south, winter wheat approached or progressed through the
reproductive stages of development in Uzbekistan in good to
excellent condition, with above-normal year-to-date
precipitation providing abundant supplemental moisture for
crop development.
However, showers slowed cotton planting
in eastern portions of Uzbekistan (10-20 mm) and southern
Kazakhstan (10-500 mm).
